Additional Helpful Hints
SnacksPlease send a small, nutritious snack along with a bottle of water daily for your child. We work and play hard at school and need to refuel. Please send one item only and items that your child can open easily (practice at home). Children only need a small amount of food for snack; something your child can eat in 10 minutes. Recess time is short and they are eager to play. Excess food tends to be thrown away. Put snacks (or snack baggie) directly into your child’s backpack; avoid extra lunch boxes. Separate your child's snack from their day care lunch. Be sure to label water bottles, disposable as well as reusable bottles.
Please: NO fruit juices or milk, as they attract wasps. NO glass containers. NO nut products--We are a NUT FREE ZONE. |
Personal PossessionsIt is imperative that you put your child’s name on everything brought to school. This includes backpacks, snacks, water bottles, jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, books, sharing items. Please remind your child to bring everything home that they brought to school that day. We periodically clean out the classroom and take items to the school Lost and Found.
Except for assigned sharing days, please have your child leave all personal possessions, including toys, bracelets, rings, watches, games, cell phones, etc., at home. These items can get broken or lost so easily and children become upset. |
Kindergarten SkillsLEARNING FOCUS:
* Handwriting: We are practing and learning proper latter formation and writing our names in titlecase. * Writer's Workshop: We are working on how to label pictures that we draw. * Reader's Workshop: We will continue to explore all the parts of a cool and practice reading in different ways! We will also talk about the importance of rereading books for understanding and how to pick "just right" books * Math: We are working on numbers 1-10. We will talk about important math vocabulary and gain a deeper understanding of how number work. * Science: How do we use our senses to work like scientist * Social Studies: We are learning about the community and people around us! WHAT ARE WE LEARNING? As we kick off our year together we will be focused on learning to work together in our new classroom with our new friends. We will learn about our new job as a kindergartener, our school, and the important people that work here. We will begin the year mastering letter names and learning letter sounds as we learn about one another in a fun Name Study Unit. Please be sure you practice at home so that your child can write his/her own name independently. We will focus on writing it with one capital letter at the start and the rest of the letters lowercase. |
